Monastery of Varlaam

Founded in 1518, this monastery is named after the first hermit who lived on this rock in 1350. The most impressive building here is the Kathalikon, dedicated to All Saints.

The 195 steps were carved into the rock to enable visitors to walk up to the monastery safely

This windlass is still being used today, but only for lifting goods not people.
