Ancient Corinth

Corinth used to rival Athens and Thebes in terms of weath because of its location on the Isthmian traffic and trade. Until the mid 6th century Corinth was a major exporter of black-figure pottery to cities around the Greek world before being overtaken by Athens.

Corinth is mentioned in the New Testament in the Epistle of Corinthian 1 and 2 . Apostle Paul first visited the city in 51 AD and stayed for 18 months. Apostle Paul visited Corinth for a second benefit in 58 AD for 3 months and it is believed that the Epistle to the Romans was written during this period.
