St Michael's Mount

This small island off the coast of Marazion is the landmark of Cornwall. When the Normans conquered England in 1066, they were struck by the island's resemblance to their own Mont St Michel that they built an abbey here.

The island was sold to the St Aubyn family in 1659. It is now belong to the National Trust with the Aubyn family retaining a 999 years lease to live on the island. The inhabitants of the island now work on the island.
