Temple of Philae

The construction of the Temple of Isis on the Island of Philae began during the reign of Ptolemy VI and added and altered by later rulers. The temples  were partly submerged in water after the building of the Aswan Dam in 1902. With the building of the High Dam the temple complex were disassembled and removed stone by stone to the nearby Island of Agilika from 1972 to 1980.

The first pylon shows Ptolemy VII smiting his enemies.

The second pylon leads to the hypostyle hall.

The reliefs were vandalised by the Christians.

The head of a pharoah below was replaced by a cross.
