Esna Lock

We need to use the Esna Lock to pass the Aswan Old Dam because the water level on the other side is higher. The lock can take 2 boats at one time. Once the boats enter the lock, the lock will be sealed and water will be pumped into the lock until the water level is the same with the other side. As the water level rises, the boats will be raised at the same time. Then the lock will open and the boats will sail to the other side of the dam.

Approaching the lock.

Going into the lock.

Another boat behind us

Our boat entered the lock at about 4.00 in the morning. Luckily, we were able to wake up to  to witness the crossing.
