Goreme Open Air Museum

A World Heritage Site. Most of the rock-cut churches and monasteries in Cappadocia are situated here. Dating largely from 9th century onwards they were built by cutting rooms out of the soft volcanic tuff.

Many of the churches feature Byzantine frescoes depicting scenes from the Old and New Testaments.
