Michelangelo's David

Michelangelo was born in 1475 in Caprese, Florentine Republic. He was a sculptor, painter and architect. Vasari described him as the greatest artist since the beginning of the Renaissance. His two best known sculptures are David and Pieta (now in the St Peter's Basilica, Rome) and his famous frescoes depicting the scenes from Genesis on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel and later The Last Judgement on the altar wall of the Sistine Chapel have no equal

David is 17 feet tall and weighs 5,560 kg. Carved from a block of marble between 1501 and 1504, David is an account of the battle between David and Goliath. Traditionally David has been portrayed after his victory over Goliath with the severed head of Goliath by his side but Michelangelo chose to portray David before the battle with only his rock and sling.

We all wanted a photo with David
