British Museum

The British Museum is the oldest public museum in the world. It was first established in 1753 to house the collections of Sir Hans Sloane. Entry was free and given to all "studious and curious persons"

This is certainly one of the best, if not the best, museum in the world. The number of visitors exceeded 6 million a year.

The Great Court

Knowing that it is impossible to see all of the the museum in one day, we concentrated on the Egyptian Antiquities and the Parthenon Sculptures (commonly known as Elgin's Marbles)
