Jiuquan literally means "Wine Spring". It is also famous for its Ye Guang Pei, besides being an ancient city along the Silk Road. The main site here is the "Wine Spring" of the Western Han Dynasty. It has now lent its name to the Satellite Launch Centre of China in the Gobi Desert, being the nearest city to the centre.
