Giant Buddha Temple

This temple dates back to 1098 (Western Xia Dynasty). It contains the largest reclining Buddha in China. It is 35 m long and 8 m wide.

The novel The Journey to the West was said to written in the Ming Dynasty by Wu Cheng'en. However, there are paintings on the walls of this temple showing the Monk Xuanzang, the Monkey God, Zhu Bajie and Sha Wujing. This could mean that the legend of the Monkey God has been in existence much earlier.
