William III and Queen Mary bought a mansion here in 1689 and appointed Christopher Wren to convert it into a palace. Prince Charles and Princess Diana moved in after their marriage. Diana continued to live here until her death in 1997. Prince William and Kate Middleton are living here with their children. Part of the palace is now open to the public.
