Under the Criminal Justice and Police Act 2001 local authorities can designate public places as no-drinking zones where there have been alcohol-related disorder or nuisance.The order does not ban drinking in public places but enables officers to ask people to stop drinking where they have reason to believe that if they do not, alcohol-related nuisance and annoyance is likely to occur.
