The Parthenon

This temple was completed in 438 BC to house the 12 m high statue of Athena. Every aspect of the Parthenon was built on a 9:4 ratio to make the temple completely symmetrical

The sculptors also used visual trickery to counteract the laws of perspective

Each column leans inwards slightly

The middle of the column is thicker

The base of the temple is higher in the middle

About half the sections of the frieze are on display at the New Acropolis Museum. Sadly, the better ones are in the British Museum.
