Pause

We will be flying to Tibet tomorrow. I shall continue with my blog on my return. Meanwhile we have also confirmed our trip to Osaka in November 2024.

Zugspitze Plateau

There are four remaining glaciers in Germany. Zugspitze is home to two of the glaciers; the Nördliche Schneeferner and the Höllentalferner. The Südliche Schneeferner in Zugspitze has lost its status as a glacier in 2022. Now it is categorized as dead ice. All German glaciers will disappear within the next decades due to climate change. The Nördliche Schneeferner will lose its classification as a glacier presumably around 2030. As such, go and see the glaciers now before they disappeared.

The Cogwheel Train

This 90-year-old cogwheel train took us to the Zugspitze Plateau at 2,600 m above sea level.

Zugspitze Round Trip

Photo taken from Zugspitze website

A round trip to Zugspitze will be as follows (or the opposite way)

1. Cogwheel train up via Lake Eibsee and Zugspitztunnel to Zugspitze Plateau
2. Gletscherbahn Cable Car to the top
3. Zugspitze Cable Car down to Eibsee

We started from the Zugspitzebahn with the cogwheel train to the plateau. We then went up to the top by cable car. We went back to the plateau again and came back to the summit to take the cable car down to Eibsee.
