Glacier Express

This is the third scenic train we took in Switzerland. The word "express" here does not mean high speed. Thus it is also known as the world's slowest express train. Chur and Zermatt is only about 200 km apart but the journey from Chur to Zermatt takes six hours. This is because of the elevation the train has to travel.

Bahnhof Chur

The first Glacier Express train took off from Zermatt on 30th June 1930

The highest point is at Oberalpass at 2033 m above sea level

The Glacier Express travels over 291 bridges and goes through 91 tunnels.

Our table has been set for lunch when we boarded the train
