Kutna Hora

This town originated as a small mining community in the 13th century. When rich deposits of silver were found, it became the second most important town in the Bohemia. When silver began to run out in the 16th century, the town began to lose its importance and the mint finally closed in 1727.

The historical town centre in Kutna Hora was granted a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1995 together with the Church of St Barbara and the Cathedral of Our Lady at Sedlec.
