The Forbidden City is the largest well preserved imperial palace in the world. It was the home of 24 emperors of Ming and Qing Dynasties for a period of over 500 years from 1420 to 1924. Puyi was the last emperor to live here. Why is it called a "Forbidden City"? It is a city within a city measuring 961 m x 753m. It was forbidden because the admission price would be instant death. Today the admission price is just a ticket. It is now a World heritage Site.

We walked from here to the Meridian Gate 午門
Meridian Gate 午門
We wanted to follow the route suggested by Travel China Guide. As we walked we unwittingly (by getting lost) covered all the sites that are opened to the public (but not all the area of each site). We entered the Meridien Gate at 10.01 am and left the Gate of Divine Prowess at 3.53 pm. We spent about 6 hours inside the Forbidden City. One day is not enough to see what the Forbidden City has to offer.
