We will go to Marseille today. We first took the train from Avignon Centre to Avignon TGV station. The journey by high speed train is about 34 minutes direct.

Carcassonne to Avignon
We took the train back to Avignon transiting at Nimes. Both stations were empty.

Cathedral of St Michael
This church was built in the 13th century as a parish church dedicated to St Michael. It is now the seat of the Roman Catholic Bishop of Carcassonne and Narbonne replacing the Basilique of St Nazaire.

The Outer Wall
We walked on the outer wall before leaving the citadel. The length of the outer wall is about 1.6 km. We only walked part of it.

The Inner Wall
Access to the inner wall is only through Chateau Comtal. The inner wall essentially provided a second layer of defence.
