The hall has served many functions over the years. It served as a sanctuary for the emperors before performing rituals during the Ming Dynasty. It also served as the temporary residence of Emperor Kangxi during renovation of his palace and as a publishing house during the Qing Dynasty. Now it serves as a ceramic museum .
