The Lord Mayor of Londonderry is now known as Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council. It is an honorary position bestowed upon a citizen of Londonderry. In practice, he is a member of the Council, chosen by his peers to serve a one-year term. I had the honour bestowed upon me when I visited the Guildhall.
I respectfully declined the honour as I do not harbour any political ambition. Having my photo taken dressed as one is an honour in itself.
