Grianan of Aileach is a circular stone fort situated on the summit of Mount Grianan at 250 m above sea level. It has been suggested that the fort was built between 6th to 7th century. One translation of the name “Grianán of Aileach” is “Stone Temple of the Sun.” Aileach was a powerful kingdom in early medieval Ireland.
