The Parthenon Sculptures

The Parthenon was built as a temple dedicated to the Goddess Athena on the Acropolis in Athens nearly 2,500 years ago. Between 1801 and 1805, Lord Elgin removed the sculptures from the Parthenon and brought them back to England. Hence, the name Elgin's Marbles.

It has been argued that Lord Elgin's removal of the Elgin's Marbles was legal as it was within the knowledge of and with the permission of the Ottoman Empire, of which Athens had been a part of.

But the question remains : Should the British Museum return the Parthenon Sculptures to Athens? Perhaps you should visit the Parthenon in Athens to decide for yourself.
