The Elizabeth Tower, now popularly known as the Big Ben
Big Ben was the nickname given to the Great Bell of Westminster (not the clock). It was named after Sir Benjamin Hall, the Chief Commissioner of Works when the bell was hung. Today, the name refers to the tower as a whole.
