Abbey of St Gallen

The Abbey started from a community of hermitages founded by the Irish monk Gall. The Abbey was fully established in 747 and adopted the Rule of St Benedict. The current Abbey was built c820. It was made a World heritage Site in 1983. The Abbey is famous for its library.
