This Gurdwara is one of the nine historical gurdwaras in Delhi. It was built on the place where Guru Tegh Bahadur was beheaded by the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb for refusing to convert to Islam. During the later years the site alternated as a gurdwara and a mosque. Eventually after a prolong litigation, the Privy Council in London ruled in favour of the Sikh community. The present building was constructed in 1930.
