Jokhang Temple

Jokhang was founded in AD 639 to house the statue of a Shakyamuni Buddha brought as dowry by the Nepali Princess Bhrikuti on her marriage to King Songtsen Gampo. The statue is important because it represented Buddha at the age of 8 years old and was made during the lifetime of Buddha. Jokhang is considered to be the holiest site in Tibet. Unfortunately again no photography is allowed inside.
