The Dewa Agung of Klungkung has ruled Bali since the 17th century. In 1908, the Dutch invaded Klungkung. It was the last Balinese kingdom to fall. The palace was built in the early 18th century. Taman Gili (the moated garden) is what remains of the Klungkung royal palace. The two main features here are the two pavilions with intricately painted ceilings.
