Saqqara is a rich archaeological site in Egypt. Its monuments span nearly 5000 years from the earliest ancient Egyptian structures to Coptic monasteries. Excavation works are still ongoing and many tombs are found recently. We were only able to see the outside of the step pyramid on our first visit here in 2007. That is why we wanted to come back.
Sites that are open to the public
Old Kingdom pharaohs were buried in the 11 major pyramids here and their subjects were buried in the many smaller tombs scattered around Saqqara.
