King's Cross London

On our 5th day in London, we took a train from King's Cross to Cambridge.

Queuing to buy the train tickets

A new semi-circular departure concourse, opened to the public on 19 March 2012

Where is platform 9¾?

9:45 am train to Cambridge

There is no platform between lines 9 and 10 at King's Cross. To solve this, the filmmakers re-numbered platforms 4 and 5 during the filming of Harry Potter.

Still, there was no sign of the Hogwarts Express

The train  took 45 minutes to reach Cambridge

Nice, clean and comfortable train

Relaxing too

Looking forward to Cambridge

Charing Cross

Charing Cross is renowned for its specialist bookshops, second-hand and antiquarian shops.

Piccadilly Circus

The name 'Piccadilly' originates from the word piccadil, a 17th century frilled collar worn by men. Circus in England (from Latin) also means an open circular place where several streets intersect. This place is always so crowded and hence has given its name to the phrase it's like Piccadilly Circus.

The statue of Anteros was erected in 1892 as a memorial to the Earl of Shaftesbury.
He has often been mistaken as the Greek God of Love Eros because of the bow he is holding

The world's most expensive advertising hoarding

Coca Cola has advertised on the hoarding since 1955, the longest continuous presence at Piccadilly Circus. Hyundai has just replaced Sanyo, costing the company about £2 Million a year. The price is a record for one of the world’s most valuable advertising hoardings, and reflects how rarely the 100-year-old space come to the open market. This is one of the most photographed sites in the world and seen by more than 34 million people a year.

Madam Tussauds

Madam Tussauds was born in 1761 in Strasbourg. During the French Revolution, she was forced to make death masks of nobles and the King and Queen, to prove her allegiance. She inherited the wax figures at the end of the French Revolution and took her exhibition on tour.

The best Fish & Chips in the city?

This restaurant is near St Paul's beside the Millennium Bridge.

This ad caught our attention

Fish & Chips and peas

It may not be the best Fish & Chips in the city; but we will recommend it if you visit St Paul's.

St Paul's Cathedral : The Golden Gallery

The Golden Gallery is the smallest of the galleries and runs around the highest point of the outer dome. We continued to climb the last  152 steps to the top.
