Bern Munster

Bern Munster is a Gothic cathedral. Work on the cathedral started in 1421 and continued into the 16th century. It was only when the spire was added in 1893 that the cathedral was completed. At the height of 100.6 m, it is the tallest church in Switzerland.

Bro, you OK?

Bern

Bern has been the capital of Switzerland since 1848. We took the tram from the station to Zytglogge to visit the Munster first. Then we walked to the Baren Park and return to the Old Town via Untertorbrucke.

Fraumunster

The history of Fraumunster, or Women's Minster started when King Ludwig of Germany made his daughter the abbess of the convent here.

Grossmunster

The twin towers of Grossmunster dominate the skyline of Zurich. We could see them from our hotel. Work on this church started in 1100 and the towers were completed in the 15th century.

The Bronze Door

The stained glass windows here were done by German artist Sigmar Polke in 2009. He did not use glass. He used semi-precious stones by cutting them into thin slices to let the light through.
