Hallstatt sits at the foot of the Dachstein Alps and overlooks Hallstatt See. It is regarded as one of the most beautiful villages in Europe. Hallstatt was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. Salt mining in Hallstatt dates back more than 7,000 years, making it home to one of the oldest known salt mines in the world.
