This monastery is dedicated to Virgin Mary. It is commonly known as the syrian Monastery because it was mainly used by monks of the Syriac Orthodox Church from the 8th to the 14th century. It is unclear when the monastery was established.
It is believed that the monastery was founded in the 6th century
