Chateau d'Angers

A fortress built from 1230-40 by Louis IX in the town centre of Angers. In 1585, Henri III removed the pepper pot shaped towers from the fortress.

The chateau is now owned by the City of Angers and has been converted into a museum housing the oldest and largest collection of  medieval tapestries in the world. The most famous being The Apocalypse, the longest tapestry in the world at 103 m (originally 140m). It was woven between 1373 and 1382  depicting scenes from the Book of Revelation
