Afternoon Tea at Fortnum & Mason

William Fortnum worked in the royal household of Queen Anne. Every night he replaced the candles used by the royal family with new ones. The used candles were then sold for a tidy profit. Fortnum convinced his landlord, Hugh Mason, to go into the grocery business with him in 1707, and the rest, as they say, is grocery.

The tradition of taking tea and that little bit of something between lunch and dinner had long been a feature of smart households since 1784, and in the Roaring Twenties at Fortnum’s it was defined by a menu featuring the finest teas, delicate sandwiches and exquisite cakes.

We wanted that experience.
And the damage was  £103-50!

Afternoon Tea at Harrods

We wanted to take our children to experience afternoon tea at one of London's finest. We have been to Fortnum & Mason and this time we chose Harrods. (https://slsongtravel.blogspot.com/search?q=fortnum) Do not confuse afternoon tea with high tea.

Back to London

We have spent too much time at Hampton Court Palace and had our lunch later than expected. We then went back to London and to Fortnum & Mason as we  have booked our afternoon tea at 4.00 pm.

Still at Hampton Court at 3.00 pm
