Okunoin Cemetery

The cemetery was established in 835 and it has more than 200,000 tombs. Japan's most powerful and illustrious families are buried here. Modern tombstones of individuals, associations and companies are recent addition to the cemetery. These tombs were built to commemorate their dead employees. The mausoleum of Kukai is also here but we did not walk that far into the cemetery. We stopped at Eireden Shrine.
