Swedawmyet Pagoda

This is where a replica of the Buddha's tooth is kept. This pagoda was built when China agreed to exhibit the original in Burma periodically.

The Republic of the Union of Myanmar

Formerly known as Burma, its name was officially changed to Myanmar by the military government in 1989. However, many Burmese and countries still continue to use Burma because they do not recognise the legitimacy of  the military government and hence its authority to change the name.

We visited Burma in May 2005.
