Qinghai-Tibet Railway 青藏铁路

The Qinghai-Tibet Railway covers a distance of 1,956 km from Xining to Lhasa. It is the first railway line in Tibet. It has over 960 km of the line above 4000 m above sea level making it the highest railway line in  the world. The section between Xining and Golmud was built between 1958 and 1984. The section from Golmud to Lhasa began in 2001 and was completed in 2006. The highest point is at Tanggula Pass at 5,072 m and the Tanggula Railway Station is the highest staion in the world at 5,068 m. The 1,038 m long Fenghuoshan Tunnel is the highest rail tunnel in the world at 4,905 m.
