We got up early as we have booked our table at Hawksmoor for breakfast at 9.00 am. We took the train from here into the city.

The train from here to Liverpool Street Station is only 15 minutes

London is made up of the Greater London and the City of London (known colloquially as "the City"). The City of London is distinct from London. It has its own government, its own mayor and its own police force. It is also known as the Square Mile and is the financial district of London.

These dragons mark the boundary of the City

It is headed by the Lord Mayor of London as opposed to The Mayor of London. The main role of the Lord Mayor of London is to promote the City as a financial centre although it has lost some of its banking headquarters to Canary Wharf (another financial centre in London). While the Lord Mayor of London may have a fancier title and costume, it is the Mayor of London  who wields the real political power.
