The island of Delos is situated about 3 km southwest of Mykonos. According to the Greek mythology, Delos was the birthplace of Artemis and Apollo.

Delos was a religious centre since 700 BC during the Mycenaean period (1600-1100 BC) and second in importance only to Delphi. This island was so sacred that no one was allowed to be born or die here.
House of Dionysus
Its heydays were during the Hellenistic period when there were about 30,000 inhabitants on this little island. The city was destroyed by the Romans in 88 BC

This baren island is devoid of vegetation and hence there were no inhabitants since. It is now a World Heritage site
