Ancient Delos

Delos was a religious centre since 700 BC during the Mycenaean period (1600-1100 BC) and second in importance only to Delphi. This island was so sacred that no one was allowed to be born or die here.

Its heydays were during the Hellenistic period when there were about 30,000 inhabitants on this little island. The city was destroyed by the Romans in 88 BC
