Chancery Lane

Chancery, a word which really means Chancellor. The Court of Chancery was the Court of the Lord Chancellor. It administered a system of law, known as "equity" operating along side the common law and in times of conflict, equity prevails. The Court of Chancery used to sit in Lincoln's Inn and that is where the street next to Lincoln's Inn got its name.
