Medinat Habu : The First Court

Medinat Habu was built by Ramses III between 1184-1153 BC during the New Kingdom. Ramses III's many military campaigns are recorded in details on the pylons, columns and wall.

Medinat Habu : Hypostyle Hall

The reliefs here show Ramses III making offering to the gods and are well preserved. As we proceeded further into the hall, we noted that the roof has disappeared and only the base of the columns remain.

Min is the easiest god to remember because he has an erect penis

Medinat Habu : the Second Court

Reliefs on the columns and wall depict various religious ceremonies.

The Mortuary Temple of Ramses III is the only remaining temple here. The other temples are in ruins. It is second in size only to the Karnak Temple. Ramses III was the last of the Egyptian great Pharaohs. He modelled this temple on Ramses II's mortuary temple at the Ramesseum.
