Bent Pyramid 2

There was no crowd here (unlike the pyramids in Giza). We only encountered a couple coming out as we were going in and two men overtook us. We then met a man and his guide at the top of the chamber. Apart from these brief encounters we had the pyramid to ourselves.

79 m long passage into the pyramid

We had to crawl through a long tunnel

More steps to the top

At the top of the chamber

As you can see, it was a challenge going all the way to the chamber inside the pyramid. It was an unforgettable experience for us. More so that we did it together. And more so that it was only the two of us inside the pyramid. Then I began to wonder what would happen if the lights were to go off...

Bent Pyramid

The first pyramid built by Sneferu (father of Khufu who built the Great Pyramid) in Dasyhur during the Old Kingdom. It represents a transition from a step-sided to a smooth-sided pyramids. The pyramid was constructed at an angle of 54 degrees from its base to reach a height of 105 m. However, due to the instability of the land they had to reduce the angle to 43 degrees. This explains its bent shape and hence its name.

This pyramid was re-opened in July 2019 after its closure in 1965.

Breakfast at the hotel

The hotel provides a very good selection of food for breakfast which I will show below. We enjoyed our breakfast here every morning. We will certainly recommend this hotel but I hasten to add that this blog is strictly not for profit.
