Candi Mendut

Built around early 9th Century CE, Mendut is the oldest of the three temples. The main room houses three large statues of  Buddha.

This 3 m tall statue of  Gautama Buddha  was meant to liberate the devotees from the bodily karma

Avalokitesvara is said to liberate devotees from the karma of speech

Vajrapani, liberates devotees from the karma of thought. 

Candi Pawon

The three temples of Borobudur, Pawon and Mendut are positioned along a straight line.

The style and carvings of this temple suggests that Pawon is slightly older than Borobudur.

Borobudur

This is the reason why we came to the island of Java. It is the nearest UNESCO World  Heritage Site to Malaysia.

This structure dates back to 750-850 CE, some 300 years before Angkor Wat.

Borobudur is constructed as a ten-terrace building. The first six terraces are square, three circular upper terraces and the highest terrace is where the Buddha statues are located. All the Buddha statues face west. Each terrace symbolizes a stage of human life.

Keraton Ngayogjakarta

This is the palace of the Sultan of Yogjakarta. We will not recommend this place unless you really have nothing better to do!

London Calling, again

We will be going to London again on 1/8/2013. We will fly to Rome and visit Assisi, Naples and Capri. We will then go back to London before flying home.

Sheraton Mustika Yogyakarta

This hotel is unique in that it located at the side of a hill. The lobby is actually at the highest floor. All the rooms are at the floors below.
