Orange

Our next destination was supposed to be Nimes but we decided to go to Orange instead. Orange is nearer and we can tick off two World Heritage Sites.

One small crepe is not enough, he needed a bigger one

Orange is only a 15-minute train ride from Avignon. Like Arles, it was a properous Roman city. The town is small enough to see on foot.

A shop with my name. Cool

The Pont du Gard Bistro

We had crepe for lunch at this bistro.

Pont du Gard 4

The aqueduct has three tiers; one above the other. It is supported by six arches with 11 arches on the second level and 47 arches on the third level. It is the highest Roman aqueduct in the world at 49 m tall and was a indeeed an achievement then.

Pont du Gard 3

We climbed to the top of the aqueduct to view the conduit.

Visitors can only enter the conduit of the aqueduct on a guided tour

The aqueduct has a gradient of 25 cm per km for a distance of 50 km which was an engineering feat

The conduit has been broken over time

This is a tunnel to the other side of the hill; not the conduit

We climbed further up the hill

We flew the drone again

Pont du Gard 2

The right bank has a good viewing point of the aqueduct.
